Ahvaz  is a city in the Central District of Ahvaz County, Khuzestan province, Iran. It serves as capital of the province, the county, and the district. It is home to Persians, Arabs, Bakhtiaris, Dezfulis, Shushtaris, and others.Languages spoken in the area include Persian, Arabic, Luri and dialects such as Bakhtiari, Dezfuli and Shushtari.Ahvaz is home to over 1.2 million people within its metropolitan area

Ahvaz is located in Khuzestan plain with the height of 18 meters above the sea level and enjoys a hot and humid climate. This city surrounded by fertile and flat plain from the north and center, sand dunes from east and west and arid plain of Maron from southern and southeastern which contains a huge source of gas and oil and this city is placed

Ahvaz is the political, administrative and trade center of Khuzestan province that consists of 3 parts "Markazi", "Bavi", "Hamidieh", 5 cities and 12 rural districts. Ahvaz metropolis is the third largest city after Tehran and Mashhad and seventh most populous city in Iran

Big and valid universities of Ahvaz have a privileged position in terms of their high educational system

Karun with the highest water level, known as the biggest and longest river of Iran and Middle East divides Ahvaz into east and west parts, and the bridges on this river are the symbols of this town and the most important tourist attractions beside the remains of the imposing war, religious places and historical buildings of Ahvaz. Different nations such as Arabs, Bakhtiari, Behbahani, Dezfouli, Ramhormozi, Shushtari and etc., constitute the main Ahvaz residents. Ahvaz is the center of Mandaean religion in Iran and one of the places where the Chaldean and Assyrian Catholic Christian bishops live there.
